To fully implement and assess the K to 12 Curriculum Program each school in Valenzuela was required to send two participants to attend the Division Live-in Seminar Workshop on Mother Tongue for Grade 2 Coordinators/ Master Teachers/ Teachers, according to the Division Memorandum No. 317 s. 2013, which was held on October 22–24, 2013 at Luntiang Paraiso Resort and Hotel, Guiguinto, Bulacan. Prior to this, Pasolo Elementary School had chosen Ms. Stephanie U. Macalinao, and Mrs. Elisa E. Asistio to be in the said event. The aim of the seminar-workshop was to make a big and small book in which the story came from the learning materials in mother tongue. All the participants were assigned to bring different materials needed in creating books.

The seminar was headed by the Education Principal Supervisor, Mrs. Rosarie R. Carlos. During the first day, we had an opening program and followed by an orientation. The Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary, Bro. Armin A. Luistro had given a short message through a video regarding K to 12 Program. He said “K to 12 Program was not only created in the central office of the DepEd but it is a conglomeration of the ideas from TESDA, CHED, DepEd, and other Education Stakeholders with the help of different agencies like Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).” He added that it is not a perfect curriculum there is much for us to work on. There will be learning curves that we will need to meet and challenges until we can able to solve the problems in Educational system of the Philippines.

The three-day seminar was very fruitful. There was a big challenge on the part of the teachers especially for those who don’t have the gift in drawing, sketching or illustrating. But through God’s grace, we were able to come up with an output. Pasolo Elementary School was assigned to make a small and big book for the story “Patimpalak written by Babylen Arit-Sooner” from the mother tongue learning materials. At first, we read the whole story. I can imagine the settings but I had the hard time to visualize it using my hand. Then, I decided to ask one teacher who could draw the characters in the story. Afterwards, I just imitate everything so I was able to finish the book. Mrs. Asistio helped me in arranging the illustrations I have made together with its written story. We were also asked to translate the whole story in English.             The time in doing the small and big books were not really enough so we have to extend our efforts even at midnight. We need to follow the program because there were lots of speakers that need to convey the principles underlying the Mother Tongue Based – Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE). Teachers felt exhausted after the three-day live in seminar workshop yet filled with joy in accomplishing the output in the creation of small and big books.
